GM plans to limit the use of traffic-jam assist functions so that they cannot be used at road intersections, Instead, first-generation systems will be used for motorway driving and on certain sections of city streets where traffic direction and road markings are much more clearly defined. GM Europe's senior manager for advanced technology, Bruno Praunsmandel said: "Once you use traffic jam assist in complex scenarios such as at intersections then you have to include pedestrian and bicycle detection which is more challenging. First-generation systems will go into urban areas but we won't let the system drive through intersections."
