Audi wants to resurrect the R8 e-tron electric sports car, despite cancelling the project in 2013. The next-generation R8 can house a battery pack and the company wants it to serve a halo model for e-mobility. The e-tron's long and troubled development was halted by then-head of technical development Wolfgang Durrheimer, who cited unsustainable costs of €1 million per vehicle. His successor has other ideas. Audi R&D chief Professor Ulrich Hackenberg said: "I can increase the range to more than 450km so that is not a problem. The business case still is a problem but I need such a car as a technology carrier. So I'm fighting for it, and we'll make a decision in the next weeks whether to continue with it. The chances are not so bad."
