A dual-layer diffusion coating that reportedly protects ethylene furnace tubes and fittings, as well as reformer tubes, has been developed by Alon Surface Technologies Inc., Leechburg, Pa. The AlcroPlex coating system is an advanced bi-diffusion system incorporating chromium, silicon, and aluminum. It provides a dual-layer diffusion coating that offers excellent resistance to carburization, coke formation, and metal dusting at temperatures of up to 1150°C (2100°F). The coating system is applied to the inside surfaces of tubes and fittings by an advanced chemical vapor deposition pack cementation process.
