摘要

A discrete-state continuous-time Markov process is described which enables the short and long term behaviour of the bit-rate production of VBR video coders to be modelled. The model has a square lattice of states, and transition rates which allow it to be separated into component birth-death processes whose properties are known. The results are applied to a videoconference time series which exhibits both short and long term behaviour.
