A recently released US report provides an up-to-the-minute analysis of the overall performance of HFC refrigerant in comparison with alternative substances. The report, conducted by the respected firm Arthur D. Little Inc was commissioned by the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy and released in the US in September. The report finds that in 1997, the three lesser of the six greenhouse gases, HFCs, PFCs and SF_6 were 2 per cent of the total greenhouse gas emissions, for which HFCs emissions from use were 0.8 per cent of the total. It is anticipated that HFC emissions in 2030 will be approximately 2.3 per cent of total emissions, while carbon dioxide will comprise almost 77 per cent of total emissions.
