For several decades members of Australian police jurisdictions have assisted authorities in numerous countries in various official capacities. This century, assistance has included providing police for peacekeeping and capacity building missions in countries such as Timor Leste, Afghanistan and the Solomon Islands; responding to large crisis events such as the aftermath of the substantial earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2011; or providing training or advice in a wide range of specialist areas, a role the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in particular carry out frequently.
