Hardly a week goes by without media articles and reports on the dire situation the Australian wine sector is now facing. Are these the worst conditions the Australian wine sector has faced or simply the transgression through an unavoidable economic cycle? Many of these reports are prepared from the perspective of wine grapegrowers. In truth, one does not need to dig too deep to find tales of woe in the current environment facing grapegrowers: low prices, cancelled or reduced contracts, varietal supply not matching winery demand; the list goes on. Many grapegrowers are currently incurring losses that are obviously not sustainable into the future.
