Statistical Disclosure Control

National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) are increasingly under pressure to release more and more data for research and other purposes. However, release of these data requires careful consideration of the risk of disclosure of the identity and attributes of individuals and entities. How to control, manage and mitigate against this risk ('statistical disclosure control') is the focus of this book. The preface rightly asserts that the main audience for this book consists of employees of NSIs, or perhaps other gatekeepers of confidential data. In fact, apart from the introduction, I am unconvinced that the book is of interest to readers other than such employees (e.g. data users) inasmuch as the level of detail described in the book probably goes beyond the need of those not directly involved with statistical disclosure control. The level of detail also makes the book more likely to be one to be dipped into-to find out more about a particular method, for example-than one to be read cover-to-cover.
