National ocean governance and sustainable oceans

The last quarter of 2016 has seen a refocusing on ocean governance, first through the Our Ocean 2016 conference - held in Washington, DC, in September 2016 and second through the World Ocean Council's (WOC) Sustainable Ocean Summit 2016 held in November-December 2016 in Rotterdam. While the two meetings were different; Our Ocean 2016 brought together senior representatives of governments, whereas the WOC Sustainable Ocean Summit 2016 was targeted at the international oceans business community, both meetings focused on the need for sustainable use and management of the world's seas and oceans.
