In the digital age, reform of copyright laws is always on the agenda and always highly contested. Vested commercial interests - whether copyright owners or technology industries based on uncompensated uses of copyright material - vigorously pursue their interests, commonly resulting in policy gridlock or lowest common denominator compromises. On both sides, claims are made that are difficult or impossible to substantiate. It is easy to despair. This issue of the journal has three articles addressing current issues in Australian copyright reform.
