Changes to Renewable Energy Target (RET)

In the wake of the deferred implementation of the ill-fated Emissions Trading Scheme the Australian Government has introduced three new Bills to amend and revive the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme.rnThe three "Renewable Energy" Bills were passed by the House of Representatives on 27 May 2010 and now await Senate approval.rnThe existing RET schemernThe existing RET scheme is part of the Government's policy to increase Australia's reliance on renewable energy. The Government has set a target to supply 20 percent of Australia's energy needs through renewable sources by 2020.
