Carbon farming on Crown land: compliance with property and native title laws

The original purpose of the Commonwealth Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 (Cth) (CFI Act) was to establish a regulatory framework for proponents of carbon sequestration and emissions avoidance projects to generate carbon credit units to be sold on national and international markets. The CFI was intended to complement the carbon pricing mechanism under the (subsequently repealed) Clean Energy Act 2011 (Cth) to encourage emissions reductions in industries that were not otherwise carbon regulated.'
