As you have probably noticed, there has been some delay in the publishing of this issue. I apologise for this and hope that future issues will be out in a timely fashion. This emphasises the issue of the time taken in actually putting the issue together - from receiving or soliciting articles, going through the refereeing process (which can be an iterative process between the author and editor), and final publication. This all takes time and I would encourage potential contributors to consider this when preparing and offering material for publication. As with every issue, this copy of AARL contains a mix of articles that will hopefully provide interesting and thought provoking reading. Opening with a joint paper from an academic and practitioner - something I am keen to encourage - looking at the critical issue of student retention and the role of the library.
