The founders of Ladli Design insist pieces are hand finished but are determined to offer them at a reasonable price point. Ermalinda Abitbol, who founded the business with daughter Madurya, refers to its head office on the Cold Coast as the 'drawing board' where designs and certain patterns are made before the pieces are completed in India. "We insist on hand finishes," she says. "These garments are for the woman who is looking for something extra that is hand finished without a huge price tag," she says. Suggesting the art of hand finishing garments is a dying one, she says a goal is to keep cottage industries operating. "Hand embroidery is part of Ladli's heart," she says. "These pieces are not disposable; we want people to be able to wear them in 10 years."
