JNC's Tokai Reprocessing Plant Starts Test Operations

On June 29, the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) restarted test operations at its Tokai Reprocessing Plant, as the final stage in a periodic in- spection toward full operation. Over a period of one month, actual spent fuel was reprocessed and data on the recovery of final products obtained, in order to complete the final examination. The resumption comes a full three years and three months after the fire and explosion accident that took place at the bitu-minization facility in March 1997.
