Electric Power Supply Plans for Fiscal 2003 Include Commissioning of 15 New Nuclear Units

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (METI-ANRE) released the electric power supply plans for FY2003 submitted by Japan's ten electric companies and three electricity wholesalers as of March 31. The plans cover the coming decade (April 1, 2003, to March 31, 2013). Due to the prolonged recession in Japan and efforts to conserve energy, they predict lower power demand, as well as lower peak demand, than had been indicated in the plans released last year.
