摘要

We thank Barton et al. (2009) for their comments to our work on the sorption of perfluorocarboxylic acid to fiber filter surfaces (Arp and Goss, 2008). We appreciate this opportunity to respond to their comments (incidentally the authors were top choices for our peer review), as we hope it will clarify some of the findings in our work. As is evident from our responses below, we continue to conclude that surfaces with exposed silica surfaces, such as non-surface deactivated Quartz Fiber Filters (QFFs), are unsuitable for collection of perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs). The most important evidence for this was from our own experimental findings, which we still contend agree nicely with several observations reported by the writers of the comment.
