An Analysis of Immigration Rates by State

Do all immigrants respond alike to economic variables? Are virtually all immigrants attracted to the same part of the country, namely, states along the southern U.S. border? We examine the effects of both economic and regional factors influencing 2010 U.S. immigration rates of (i) unauthorized immigrants and (ii) new arrival legal permanent residents. This will be done by means of regressions fitted to the cross-section of 50 states.
