MINIOUTBURSTS FROM THE BLACK HOLE CANDIDATE NOVA VELORUM 1993

We present optical observations of a recent X-ray nova considered to be a strong black hole candidate. We observed Nova Velorum 1993 intermittently between 150 and 205 days after the initial outburst and find evidence for a secondary outburst and repeated "mini-outbursts," similar to those observed from X-ray Nova Persei 1992. A finding chart is presented for this object, as well as spectra of the source at two different epochs. It seems likely that an explanation of the light curve will require consideration of the complex interplay between accretion, mass flow, and X-ray heating effects in the accretion disk and the secondary star.
