After years of reform, can India deliver its promise?

India is experiencing dramatic changes in the legal provisions of the electricity sector It has one goal - to provide electricity for all by 2012 by adding 100,000 MW of capacity. With an area of 3.29 million km2, a population of 1.08 billion and an installed generating capacity of 114164 MW, power generation per kw was 5150 kwh and per capita consumption 613 kwh. Comparing the per capita consumption with other countries, the picture may not be flattering but the growth of capacity is certainty notewor-thy.
