摘要

Malaysia might not be dogged with power shortages as severe as China, but the country has seen its share of drama lately with its to-raise-or-not-to-raise electricity rates dilemma. On November 7 last year, the Malaysian government rejected a call for Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia's power distribution monopoly to raise electricity rates. Tenaga wanted to raise rates to help offset rising fuel costs, but the government said it wasn't ready to burden the public with higher electricity rates and wanted to explore alternative ways of tackling the problem.
