Land-Based Electronic Warfare Systems: Asia's 'Undeclared' War in Cyber-space

As demonstrated in coalition operations in Afghanistan and Iraq recently, the range and speed of modern weapons and the pace and scope of modern combat heavily depend on electronics. State-of-the-art electronic warfare (EW) systems provide target detection, designation, and fire control for weapons, navigation and motion control for weapons platforms, and communications and information for battle management. Additionally, the delivery of in-depth tactical and technical knowledge of threats via EW is a key element to the success of missions and the credibility of armed forces. EW is a vital factor in this process through signals intelligence (SIGINT), electronic intelligence (ELINT) and the localisation of emitters for Electronic Order of Battle compilation and situational awareness. Against evolving threats, only leading edge, high-technology EW equiprnents controlled and integrated by sophisticated real-time software, enable the high level of performance required to dehy the enemy access to information through confusion or deception, or to provide the earliest warning of threats and to respond using self-protection or offensive jamming or decoying.
