North Korea's new leader Kim Jong-un was named the top mili tary official of the ruling party, state media said on April 12, ahead of a rocket launch that has triggered international alarm. Jong-un was elected the "chair man" of the Central Military Com mission-which controls the 1.1 million-strong military-at a party conference, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
