Most observers would agree that there is a large global market for assault rifles as armed forces worldwide start looking for new weapons. Amidst the gloomy industry news, several major assault rifle programmes are in place for the taking. Asian militaries facing a multitude of threats from conventional wars to low-intensity urban and jungle conflicts are also looking at cues from other rifle programmes internationally. Besides updating their existing rifles, they want to arm their soldiers with a more effective lethal, compact and lightweight weapon.
