Outlook poor in medium term for most-penetrated markets

The combination of customer demand and competitive pressure will see 3G deployed in Asia's remaining markets in the next two years, says Merrill Lynch. While many operators in developed markets attempted to delay deployment while the technology was immature, all have now committed significant resources to their 3G platforms for regulatory and competitive reasons. Moreover, 3G licenses are set to be allocated in China, India, Thailand and Pakistan by early next year (see fig.).
