Viettel, MobiFone permitted to trial 5G with end users

Vietnam s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has announced it has awarded licenses allowing the launch of pilot 5G networks to mobile operators Viettel and MobiFone. The former is permitted to test 5G with subscribers in Hanoi using spectrum in the 2500MHz-2600MHz, 3700MHz-3800MHz and 27.1GHz-27.5GHz frequency bands and up to 140 base transceiver stations (BTS), while MobiFone is allowed to install 50 BTS operating in the 2600MHz band in Ho Chi Minh City. The test licenses are valid until the end of June 2021.
