Ericsson deploys Cloud Packet Core to strengthen SK Telecom's 5G network

Swedish vendor Ericsson has been selected to deliver a Cloud Packet Core for South Korean mobile operator SK Telecom's 5G network. Announcing the new commercial agreement under which it has turned on a Cloud Packet Core in the operator's commercial 5G core network, Ericsson said the development expanded on an existing 5G core network transformation project, while claiming the deployment would help SK Telecom improve network performance and user experience. Ericsson noted that its Cloud Packet Core, part of the company's Cloud Core portfolio, helps service providers to smoothly migrate to 5G Core (5GC) standalone architecture, and that it 'creates value, visibility and control of traffic and applications by determining the optimal quality of a service, then enforcing it through appropriate policy'.
