South Korea's Samsung Electronics has signed an expansion contract with mobile network operator (MNO) KT Corp to provide public safety (PS-LTE) network solutions based on 3GPP standard Release 13 for ten major metropolitan regions in South Korea by 2020. In a press release the companies say they aim to expand the PS-LTE network into metropolitan areas around the country, including in the Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeolla, Gyeongbuk and Chungnam provinces. In addition to LTE radio base stations that support 700MHz, Samsung will reportedly provide KT with virtualized core and the latest features of PS-LTE based on the 3GPP standard. Some of the key features reportedly include MCPTT solutions, RAN Sharing, evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service, Public Network loT based on NB-loT, Isolated eUTRAN Operation for Public Safety (IOPS), and device to device (D2D) network solutions. In addition, under the latest I deal, KT and Samsung will also seek to deliver 'the world's first Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-loT) service through the PS-LTE network'.
