The Government of Singapore, never short of self-assurance and the will to be among the leaders in defence technology, is preparing to become the fourth Asian nation to operate the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35 if a proposal announced by the Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in early March is followed through. An initial four F-35As are sought potentially leading to an additional eight resulting in a fleet of 12 aircraft. Although still to be approved by the US Congress, Ng said that the deal had already been sanctioned by both the Trump administration and the Department of Defence.
