Amotech Banks on Ceramic Chip Products, Taps New Applications Markets

Amotech Co., Ltd. is one of the few successful Korean companies that emerged stronger after the global high-tech bubble burst. Unlike other Korean passive components makers that limped along with slumping sales in the PC markets, Amotech scored a record operating profit of 8.3 billion won in FY2002 on sales of 31 billion won. This was 42.3 percent better than its performance the previous fiscal year, proving that its diversification efforts into non-PC markets were good business strategies. Sales to mobile phone markets were spectacular, mainly led by strong sales growth in its ceramic chip varistor and chip filter lines, which more than doubled from year ago figures. These ceramic chip products are also used with networking equipment such as ADSL modem and other handheld devices like PAD and handheld GPS systems.
