Fuji Machine Sees Sustained Demand for Mounters, Places Vietnam as Priority Market

For fiscal year ending March 2007, Fuji Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. posted consolidated sales of ¥102 billion, about ¥85.5 billion of which came from electronic component mounters and about ¥77 billion were exports. The company's exports to China accounted to about 50 percent while in the whole Asia, which includes China, is about 70 percent. The company also makes efforts in expanding its surface mounter business courtesy of agents in emerging markets such as India and Vietnam. Masayoshi Ohara, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fuji Machine Mfg., shares the company's strategies to AEI for FY2008. AEI: What is your perspective of the surface mounter market in 2008? Ohara: At present, it would be difficult to predict the impacts of the subprime loan problem. There is a concern that China, the center of demand for mounters, can be affected by the economy of the United States. After the bubble economic period ended in year 2000, our sales dropped to one third in FY2001. Before that, however, we have been receiving active inquiries from Taiwanese companies but we suffered from large stocks for two to three years.
