Power Module Hastens Time-to-Market of Power Solutions

Telecommunications system designers often face a very short project deadline when designing a new power supply. The design usually starts with a proof-of-concept implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA), and then the power supply is built. For this prototype design example, an isolated power brick provides the 12V source that is powering an advanced application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a microcontroller (MCU), an FPGA, and an assortment of other components. As always, these components consume practically all of the board's real estate, and the laws of physics are challenged to provide adequate power, stability, thermals, low noise and reliability.
