Mass Production Starts for New Electrode Films for Capacitive Touch Panels

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. has begun mass production of new electrode films for capacitive touch panels. Many electrode films employ indium tin oxide (ITO) as a conductive material. Its adoption, however, involves some challenges, like the difficulty to apply them to large screens because their responsiveness is poor due to irreducible surface resistance; and they are vulnerable to bending. Some electrode films use silver or aluminum in a mesh format, but there is also an issue on the metallic reflection of the mesh portion reducing visibility.
