STMicroelectronics has added ST-M32L0x0 Value Line microcontrollers (MCUs) to its STM32L0* Series family as an entry-level option that delivers ultra-low power technology and efficient 32-bit performance with the Arm Cortex-M0+ core. The cost-saving MCU was primarily built for designers facing tight cost, size, or power constraints. The new MCU provides up to 128KB Flash memory, 20KB static RAM, and 512B true embedded EEPROM on-chip, thus saving on external components to cut down on board space and bill-of-materials (BOM) cost. The new STM32L0x0 Value Line MCUs are ideal for personal medical devices, industrial sensors, and Internet of Things devices, such as building controls, weather stations, smart locks, smoke detectors, or fire alarms in addition to fitness trackers, computer or gaming accessories, and remotes. The new MCU integrates ST's power-saving low-leakage process technology and device features, such as low-power Universal Synchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART); low-power timer; 41μ A 10ksample/sec analog-to-digital converter; and wake-up from power saving in as little as 5μsec. Designers can use these devices to extend battery runtime without sacrificing product features, increase wireless mobility, or endow devices like smart meters or IoT sensors with up to 10-year battery-life, leveraging the ultra-frugal 670nA power-down current with RTC and RAM retention.
