State of the Society

摘要

It is said that we reap what we sow. So it is with sustain-ability in the built environment, just as it is with the vegetable garden that has been an important part of my life for many years. When I was about age seven, shortly after the end of World War II, my parents started a floral and nursery business. My earliest lessons in sustainability came from the experiences I had in observing and being involved in that business. One of my first tasks was to plant seedlings of ornamental trees. The fundamentals included preparation of the soil, selection of the seedling stock, planting, and nourishment during the early stages of growth.
