His main research areas are fertility, family behavior, cancer incidence and survival, and general mortality in Norway. The emphasis has largely been on socioeconomic determinants or the relationship between fertility/family and morbidity/mortality. Most of this work is based on event history analysis, and he has made extensive use of register data. In addition, he has studied the importance of women 's education and autonomy for fertility and child mortality in developing countries. Recently, he has taken a special interest in multilevel analysis.Ronald R. Rindfuss is a Senior Fellow at the EastWest Center in Honolulu, the Robert Paul Ziff Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, anda Fellow of the Carolina Population Center. His research interests include changing family and fertility patterns, and the relationship between population and the environment. His recent articles examine the effect of childcare availability on fertility (Demography 2007), variation in social networks (American Journal of Sociology 2007), land use change in frontiers (Annals of the Association of American Geographers 2007), and measuring housing quality (Population Studies 2007).;
