Tax Incentives for Efficiency Are Part of Energy Legislation

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 provides several tax incentives for commercial buildings that will be of interest to ASHRAE members. These include a $1.80 per ft~2 tax deduction for commercial buildings that achieve a 50% reduction over ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001. The Journal recently interviewed Philip Fairey, Member ASHRAE, about some of the provisions of the legislation. Fairey is deputy director of the Florida Solar Energy Center. He has been following the legislation for the last four years.
