York International set out to develop an international information technology strategy after it established a multinational presence through acquiring Gram Refrigeration in 1995. York tackled the introduction of a new IT platform by analyzing the needs and pitfalls common in a project of this size. Based on the analysis, York made a plan to ensure that implementation would not dramatically change the organization. After the analysis was complete, the choice of Mapics XA and the AS/400 was obvious. Besides implementing Mapics XA, York also did the following in the same period: 1. installed and introduced a new international financial system with complete integration to Mapics, 2. comverted product data from a mainframe system to the AS/400, and 3. introduced DAC-Data personnel systems.
