"Intelligent Multimedia. Managing Creative Works in a Digital World" is the eighth volume of the Series on Legal Information and Communication Technologies, by EPAP (European Press Academic Publisher). The book is the result of a joint effort between researchers from two different communities with overlapping interests: the Creative Commons community and the Artificial Intelligence and Law community, more concretely those researchers working on the management of legal multimedia information. The book not only gathers the reflections deriving from a mature experience of both communities in the design of legal and technical instruments for enhancing free access to digital culture, but provides, for the first time, a space for dialogue and synergies between them. The book tries to provide answers to such varied questions as what are the best technical and legal options to enable digital commons, to enhance the collaborative production of knowledge, to ensure interoperability and accessibility of digital contents. These questions raise issues regarding intellectual property regulation, metadata standards, and new economic models derived from free digital culture and open access to data. These issues are analysed by the different authors of this edited volume throughout its 22 chapters. The book contents are thus the result of the breadth of the authors' research interests, which range from intellectual property, internet governance, and multimedia information, to the missing link between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 and the latest techniques in Artificial Intelligence for the management of multimedia resources.
