In December, the Army released the report from the Fort Hood Independent Review Committee, a detailed review of the command climate at the Texas military base ordered after the murder of Spc. Vanessa Guillen. As a leader, I cringed at many passages in the report, especially those regarding how some of our soldiers live in fear on a daily basis-not fear of our declared enemies, but fear of their fellow soldiers and their leaders. Beyond my initial reaction to the report, I recognized that the issues outlined in the report are not exclusive to Fort Hood and are unfortunately likely present at every installation and in every unit. As I imagine many leaders want to do, I want to identify what lessons can be learned from the report's findings and take action to prevent those issues in the future. With that in mind, I generated three questions to direct my thinking.
