AVIATION EQUIPMENT IN PROGRAMS OF MILITARY TECHNICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN RUSSIA AND INDIA

"Supplies of aviation equipment are the most productive aspect of Russia's military technical cooperation with India", said Sergey Ivanov, Russian Defense Minister, commenting on results of the fourth session of the Russo-Indian intergovernmental commission (IGC) on military technical cooperation (MTC) held in New-Delhi from 1-2 December. The final communiqu? of the IGC noted that Russia and India are prepared to undertake soon joint projects in production of arms and military equipment, including creation of the fifth-generation aircraft as well as development and manufacture of a general-purpose transport airplane. In course of the talks, an interest was registered in modernization of MiG-29 aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force and in purchases of Yak-130 operational trainers. Generally, the subject of aircraft dominated the talks. Not surprisingly, 60 odd Russian aerospace companies declared they wished to participate in the Aero India-2005 international exhibition due to take place in Bangalore on 9-13 February 2005.
