HEAVY TRANSPORT HELICOPTERS

In first half of 2009 no contracts were concluded for heavy transport helicopters. India plans to purchase a large number of heavy helicopters. Overall it intends to acquire 15 machines worth USS 600 million. The results of the international tender are due for announcement in 2009. Taking part in the tender are Boeing (CH-47), Sikorsky (CH-53) and Rosoboronexport (Mi-26).rnLike India, Pakistan, too, may purchase heavy transport helicopters. Pakistan's Defense Ministry expressed an interest in purchasing CH-47 Chinook helicopters. According to information available, in late 2008 Italy proposed that Pakistan should acquire six mothballed Chinook helicopters. To date, no purchase decision has been taken yet.
