In a Web log post Oct. 22, the director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that U.S. foreign military sales totaled $37.9 billion in fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30. "[W]e can take pride in the fact we achieved a new record...slightly over our previous record figure of $36.4 billion in [fiscal year] 2008," the post said. It predicted sales would be $38.4 billion in the current fiscal year. The United States conducts government-to-government transfers of military items through the Department of Defense's foreign military sales program. (See ACT, March 2009.)
