Key Elements of the 2009 Tehran Research Reactor Proposal

1 Iran exports 1,200 kilograms of low-enriched uranium (LEU) in a single batch before the end of the 2009. 2 Russia further enriches the exported LEU to about 20 percent, a process producing about 120 kilograms of 20 percent-enriched uranium for the Tehran Research Reactor (TRR) fuel rods. 3 France manufactures the TRR fuel rods for delivery about one year after the conclusion of the agreement, prior to the depletion of Iran's current TRR fuel supply. 4 The United States works with the International Atomic Energy Agency to provide safety upgrades for the TRR.
