The global rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations is going well. As of 10 August over one third of Earth's population had received a single vaccine dose. This is according to statistics from the UK-based non-governmental organisation Our World in Data. The organisation asserted that almost 16 percent of the global population was now fully vaccinated. This upward trend shows no signs of abating. Yet there is a sizeable cohort of people who are prevaricating on getting jabbed or refusing outright. They are ardently encouraged by propaganda from the anti-vaccination movement. This is a problem. COVID vaccinations cannot stop you passing on the virus but they can save your life. Once vaccinated, it is likely that you will not need hospitalisation if you are infected (with exceptions for some people with underlying health issues). This reduces the burden on health services. The success of the vaccine in stopping the lethal and debilitating effects of COVID-19 depend on everyone getting vaccinated. As a brief ing from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) think tank states, "no one is safe until everyone is safe."
