Preoperative use of epoietin beta in total hip replacement: a prospective study

Objective Epoietin (EPO) effectively decreases perioperative blood transfusion requirements. We evaluated the feasibility of using EPO beta to increase haemoglobin levels before total hip replacement (THR) and reduce transfusion.
