Linked Data for Cultural Heritage

With linked data continuing to be a hot topic among cataloguers and technical services librarians, Linked Data for Cultural Heritage is an accessible yet in-depth review of current practice in the field. The editors and chapter authors are experienced library and information professionals. Following a comprehensive introduction by editor Ed Jones, Thorsen and Pattuelli (chapter 1) present a round-up of linked-data projects within the cultural heritage sphere. These projects include those by Europeana, the Digital Public Library of America, and the Social Networks and Archival Context Project. The bulk of the chapter is given over to Linked Jazz, an innovative project applying network theory to the lives of jazz artists, with the output of that theory expressed in linked data. By studying the network of jazz musician Duke Ellington in greater detail, Thorsen and Pattuelli offer an accessible introduction to the possibilities of linked data.
