E. Noether's bound in the invariant theory of finite groups

Let G be a finite group and q: G GL (n, F) a faithful representation of G over the field IF. Via q the group G acts on the vector space V = F", and hence also on the graded algebra F [V] of homogeneous polynomial functions on V. The subalgebra of functions IF [V]G fixed by the action of G is called the ring of invariants of G. See [5] for a general reference on invariant theory.
