Polygonal Wave-breaker for the Museum

The glass wave is a symbol of Hans Hollein's Lower Austrian Regional Museum. However finding the entrancernbeneath it was something of a problem. The architects from RATAPLAN have placed a polygonal spatial fold with a dynamic canopy roof made of weather-proof steel in front of the facade and rolled out a red asphalt carpet in front of the museum.rnThe Lower Austrian Regional Museum covers the three fields of history, art and nature and is intended to provide a public attraction in the government district. The diversity of the brief is echoed in Hollein's architecture. Three staggered glass domes in the shape of a quarter of a circle above the ramps, stairs and galleries make the western part of the building in a museum winter garden for stuffed animals, fauna and flora. In the eastern wing mono-pitch factory-type roofs ensure that the white cubes where modern art is displayed are bathed in bright top-light. History was given its niche on the first floor along the connecting clasp in the centre, the foyer, shop and cloakrooms were located beneath it.
