Complex Context: Living in Neustift am Walde

摘要

Building in a protected historic en-semble requires in most cases de-sign sensibility and a certain under-standing of local architectural scale and syntax. In this recent project in Vienna, a modern addition to an existing historic building succeeds in maintainingthe specific qualities of the contextual situation while simultaneously employing a modern design language. The private residence has been realized in the very sensitive and protected historic context of Neustift am Walde in the 19th district by architect August Sarnitz and Patrick Hammer. The project team carefully renovated and enlarged the single-storey, ten window-axes house originating from the time of the Viennese Historicism, around 1880.
